Here at New West, we believe that we are called to love the poor, the hurting, and the marginalized. We believe using our music to give back to our community.
For the fifth year in a row, New West Music & Arts Society is hosting a unique concert that embodies what Christmas is all about: giving from our hearts, showing love, and sharing joy. New West’s Sharing Christmas Joy concert is the highlight of our Christmas season. Members of New West Symphony & Chorus, New West Student Ensemble and New West Children’s Choir are thrilled to be able to give the gift of a joyful Christmas experience to vulnerable neighbours in our community through music and gift-giving.
On December 20, 2026, the doors of the Jack Singer Concert Hall will open wide to approximately 1500 individuals and families in Calgary who are experiencing significant financial challenges, who are stressed and hurting…. and who needed an infusion of JOY into their Christmas. We are grateful for our donors who make this possible, and for the many social service agencies who partner with us to distribute tickets to their clients, so they can attend our Sharing Christmas Joy concert. Some of these agencies include:
Mainsprings Pregnancy and Family Support Big Brothers Big Sisters
The Immigrant Education Society Emma House Kids Up Front
Luna Child & Youth Advocacy Society FearIsNotLove Elizabeth Fry Society of Calgary
Children’s Cottage The Dream Centre Jesus Loves You Society
New Canadian Friendship Centre CanLearn Society Emma House
Discovery House Compassion & Care at Centre Street Church

In addition to our annual Sharing Christmas Joy event, New West actively seeks opportunities to meaningfully impact people through our music. Over the years, we have had the privilege of performing, at no cost to our guests, in countless churches throughout Alberta, at the Mustard Seed, the Alberta Children’s Hospital, and at long-term care facilities.
“As Mom’s dementia has progressed, MUSIC HAS REMAINED OUR POINT OF CONNECTION. New West’s courtyard concert at Mom’s care home was magnificent! Not only did I enjoy the beautiful range of music, but I watched Mom come alive with joy.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING SUCH A DIFFERENCE WITH YOUR MUSIC.”
