New West Centre for the Arts means a stronger New West, which will lead to new and innovative events – giving us new ways to connect with our community!

New West Centre for the Arts creates a tremendous facility that gives New West more opportunities to collaborate with and support other faith-based arts groups in our city!

New West Centre for the Arts is located in a central area of Calgary that will be a home for each division of New West to rehearse, practice, learn and grow.

Our goal is to raise $100,000 for this project in 2024.  Funds raised will:

  • Cover the incremental increase in monthly studio/rehearsal space rental costs
  • Allow us to construct classrooms for outstanding music instruction
  • Provide acoustical treatment for the performance spaces
  • Enable New West to acquire the necessary equipment and furniture for our rehearsals, recitals, classrooms and music library

GREAT NEWS! New West Centre for the Arts is on track to open This September!

Thousands of hours, mostly volunteer-driven, have been spent these last months preparing for the Grand Opening of New West Centre for the Arts, home of New West and a future shared space for faith-based arts organizations in Calgary.  Here’s a list of just some of the tasks that our volunteers, mainly comprised of New West members and their families, have accomplished in just a few short months:

  • planning the layout and seeking contractors who are enthusiastic about New West’s vision for this project
  • removing hundreds of acoustic panels from the Cineplex Odeon theatre in Eau Claire Market, then carefully spacing and hanging these panels in NWCA’s rehearsal halls and classrooms
  • packing, moving, unpacking, cataloguing and shelving over 1000 unique titles in our on-site music library
  • scouring Kijiji and Marketplace to acquire items we require throughout the space, including 100 folding chairs for our orchestra members and guest seating
  • designing signage, creating processes and writing documentation for future rental agreements of our rehearsal halls and classrooms (not glamourous tasks, but necessary, nonetheless!

This has been a behemoth task, and we have much yet to accomplish… but we can see the finish line and we couldn’t be more excited!  If you have taken a step of faith with us in supporting the launch of New West Centre for the Arts – thank you!  We have not yet reached our $100,000 fundraising goal for this project, but we’re getting there.  If you haven’t yet donated but are able to envision how New West Centre for the Arts will mean a stronger New West and can create new opportunities for building community for local arts groups, please consider giving.  Whether it’s $20, $2000, or $20,000, we are grateful for every dollar we receive.
