David Klob, Music Director

David Klob served as the Music Director for New West Society from 2015-2017. He is thrilled to be returning to the New West family in a brand new role as Music Director of the New West Student Ensemble, launching in the Fall of 2021. David’s own musical and spiritual journeys were significantly shaped by his own youth choir experiences and he has a passion to “pay it forward” and give students similar opportunities today. David has a Master’s Degree in Church Music from Lee University and served for 14 years on the staff and faculty at Kingswood University in New Brunswick. One of his personal highlights at KU was directing a summer touring youth choir called Exalt! for 11 seasons. In 2013, David moved to Calgary where he currently serves as the Music Pastor at First Alliance Church. He is married to the lovely and talented Bethanie Klob, and is father to 3 beautiful girls – Kara, Kylie, and Emily.

Matthew Ellis, Associate Music Director

New to the New West Family, Matthew Ellis is ecstatic to dive in with both feet as the Associate Director of the New West Student Ensemble. Matthew has a Bachelor of Ministry, Bachelor of Arts in Music, and a Bachelor of Education, and currently works at the Alberta High School of Fine Arts as the vocal music and technical theatre director. He has a passion for working with student choirs, and has seen success at a provincial level with both his auditioned treble choir and general concert choir. Matthew also brings his experience in technical theatre to the youth ensemble and will be lending that ability to the technical needs and recording aspects of the youth ensemble. Still involved in the Calgary and Foothills music scene as a singer/songwriter, he enjoys playing shows and recording and producing original albums. Matthew currently lives in Okotoks with his wife, long time NWS member Andrea, their black lab Luna, and they are expecting their first child in April 2021.
